The School has a dedicated Pathways Centre located in the very heart of the School.  This provides both the environment and the resources necessary to help young people make their career and education choices.  State of the art computer facilities with the latest software sit alongside career magazines and University prospectuses.  The latest job vacancies are highlighted on the Centre's noticeboards, as are University Open Days and pre-University Taster Courses.  The Pathways Centre is available to young people in any Year Group for private study, except when it is being used by classes undertaking their own careers and educaiton research.

Welcome to the Home Page of Learning Pathways at Monmouth Comprehensive School. The Pathways Curriculum is one of the aspects of the school that transforms the phrase ‘Learning to Lead our Lives’ from a school motto into reality.

Pathways Curriculum

During their school lives and afterwards, young people face a vast range of choices concerning their education and career pathways. In Year 9 pupils decide what to study in Years 10 and 11, while in Year 10 pupils choose where to undertake their compulsory two week Work Related Experience placement. In Year 11, pupils decide whether to continue in full-time education or whether to begin their career or work-based training. Pupils who continue in full-time education must then decide whether to remain at Monmouth Comprehensive, or whether to join one of the local Further Education colleges. In Years 12 and 13, students must decide whether to undertake another Work Related Experience placement, and choose whether to apply to university, or begin their career or work-based training.

Making the Right Choice

Monmouth Comprehensive School is committed to ensuring that every young person is equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to make the right choices for them, and to succeed in those choices. A considerable portion of curriculum time is devoted to these decision-making processes. The Pathways Curriculum is also fully resourced, with a dedicated Pathways Centre, numerous hard-copy resources, and access to state of the art ICT facilities with the latest careers and educational software. The School’s annual Careers and Higher Education Fair is held in November and provides an excellent opportunity for young people to gain first-hand information concerning their possible career and educational pathways.
